Welcome to The Fine Times Recorder, your e-emporium of information on how you might spend your free time in Dorset, Somerset and beyond, published weekly overnight on Thursday/Friday.

The FTR covers what is on offer at arts centres, theatres and village halls as well as on the music, film, comedy, dance, literary and visual arts scenes – not just in the rural areas but in the cities around the region, and sometimes even further afield.

It brings you information about local food … where to buy it and where to eat it, as well as who’s making it and cooking it and selling it to you.

You can find ideas for days out, weekends away and holidays in the UK and beyond.

Local fetes and festivals will be found here, too, and our directory might also include some of the services you need to make your non-working time a bit freer for you to do all those other things (see above).

Contributors to the Fine Times Recorder include Gay Pirrie-Weir, reviewing and writing about the theatre, dance, music and more, and Fanny Charles, reporting on local food and the visual arts, with occasional contributions from Mark Blackham writing about stage and music, David Grierson reviewing concerts and musicals, Kerry Bartlett writing about bands and comedy, David Eidlestein on days out and travel and Rosie Staal on books, literature and visual arts.
