Ridgeway Villages

During the project volunteers have undertaken several research projects looking at the history of their village and the wider area.

• Sutton Poyntz Society and the History group are researching the village's long story and have included their work in a digital village map on the website www.suttonpoyntz.org.uk
• Upwey Village Society have researched a village map, including some of the historic buildings and sites as well as public footpaths around and about. The map is displayed at The Old Schoolroom in Upwey.
• Broadmayne History Group have been hard at work putting together the story of the village with Whitcombe and West Knighton into a map, which will shortly be published.

• Dorchester U3A took by in a shared learning project reserching the history of some of the deserted medieval villages within the Ridgeway area. A group of volunteers looked more closely at the the abandoned or shrunken villages near Portesham. Their report is at the Dorset History Centre.
