Recent Archaeological Studies
Within the past few years several field and desk based research projects have taken place along the South Dorset Ridgeway.These studies have contributed to the overall Ridgeway story and our understanding of this unique landscape.
From 2008 to 2011 Bournemouth University and a group of volunteers undertook surveys of the Bronze Age Barrow Cemetery at Bronkham Hill near Hardy Monument and the aggrandised round barrow at Clandon near Martinstown.

In 2007 English Heritage, with the help of a dedicated group of volunteers undertook a geophysical survey of Long Barrows in the South Dorset Ridgeway Area.
Weymouth Relief Road
Oxford Archaeology have now completed an excavation on the Ridgeway as part of the Weymouth Relief Road work (2009/2010). Discoveries include a Bronze age round barrow, Iron Age Settlement and Roman & Viking burials. Find out more from Dorset For You.
National Mapping Programme
As part of English Heritage's National Mapping Programme Cornwall County Council Aerial Photographic Unit have examined known aerial images of the South Dorset Ridgeway area. The results are exciting with 2500 new historic sites being added to the Historic Environment Record to improve our knowledge and understanding of the area. Round Barrow Survey
In early 2010 Wessex Archaeology carried out a survey of Bronze Age Round Barrows in the South Dorset Ridgeway Project Area. A copy of the report is available. 2.96 Mb
