How the Partnership works
The Dorset AONB Partnership is made up of several groups representing local and environmental interests; local landowners, businesses, environment groups, and local authority representatives; and also various governmental organisations. These groups are represented on the Dorset AONB Partnership Board, which meets twice a year.
Defra is the Government department responsible for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and National Parks in England. It provides 75% of the core funding required to establish and implement management plans for all AONBs. Additional financial support is provided by the local authorities within the AONB area, with the team fundraising for specific project activities.
The Dorset AONB team is hosted by Dorset County Council and is responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating actions to conserve and enhance the AONB. These actions are taken to progress the Dorset AONB Management Plan which is reviewed and agreed periodically.
