The Dorset AONB Partnership is committed to ensuring that both local and strategic issues are addressed within the AONB. To help achieve this, the Partnership Board is closely allied to three District Heritage Committees.

These committees link with local communities and can assist in identifying and delivering projects within their districts.

Purbeck Heritage Committee

The Purbeck Heritage Committee was formed in 1993. It brings together representatives from conservation, tourism, local authorities and landowners. The Committee's new strategy sets out a framework for action.

North Dorset Countryside & Heritage Panel

The North Dorset Countryside and Heritage Panel was reformed in January 2003 to enable local community issues in North Dorset to feed into the AONB Management Plan and to assist with delivery of schemes within the District.

Membership includes Dorset County Council and North Dorset District Council members, Dorset Association of Parish & Town Councils and other key stakeholders. The Panel also has responsibility for overseeing a Service Level Agreement with the North Dorset Ranger Team and the Dorset Wildlife Trust to ensure appropriate management of sites of nature conservation importance. This panel has decided not to meet until further notice.

West Dorset Heritage Committee

The West Dorset Heritage Joint Advisory Committee was established in December 2002. It coordinates local delivery and involvement in the preparation of the AONB Management Plan and related projects arising from West Dorset's Framework for Action in the Countryside.

The committee is a broad partnership of organisations from across West Dorset and Weymouth with a shared interest in promoting the conservation, enhancement and enjoyment of the natural beauty, diversity and heritage of the area. This committee is currently in abeyance.
