About the event

Discover how unseen geology beneath our feet dictates and influences the landscape we see today on this guided walk. Offering a unique perspective on the South Dorset Ridgeway through the eyes of artist Amanda Wallwork and geologist Sam Scriven who both adore what’s under our feet as much as what we can see above.

This circular walk from the picturesque, monastic village of Abbotsbury follows one of the routes in our specially commissioned Field Guide series commissioned for the South Dorset Ridgeway Project. Highlighting how the landforms, soil, plants, wildlife and early human intervention – all relate to the rocks below the surface, whilst taking in stunning views of the Jurassic Coast, Abbotsbury Hillfort and St Catherine’s Chapel.

This event is part of our Landscape for Life Festival, celebrating 60 years of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We’ve asked some very special people who live and work in this rich and vibrant landscape to share the places they love with you. Join artists, story-tellers, wildlife experts, geologists, farmers, archaeologists to uncover what makes the landscape so outstanding… and find your own place to love along the way.
